2025 Digital Advent #4: Lydels

We're going back to another green site tonight. If you think this is my bias showing... well, it's not my fault it's an amazing colour that really jumps off the screen! Let's stop wasting time and get to the important questions. Do ya like jazz? If not, good, because the next site is musical but much more oriented towards fans of underground electronica. I have been extra into hard house, trip hop, and whatever else funky computer noises this year but I enjoyed Lydels' site, lydels.neocities.org, for even longer!

How did I find this website?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we followed each other on... you guessed it... Neocities! However, what I did not know is that Lydels is a big fan of the band Phoenix, French indie disco dance gods. I myself really enjoy their older work but haven't kept up with them recently. However, I did see them live in 2014-ish in Hong Kong and we talked about it briefly with Lydels on her profile. At some other point I told her this bizzare story about impressing some random guy I had a crush on in school because I knew who Liszt was only because of the Phoenix song Lisztomania. She must have thought I was pretty weird. My bad. Anyway, I try to keep up with Lydels' site, especially with music she recommends or makes, as her skills as a musician and taste as a DJ are excellent.

Check this website out if you like...

Lydels' is a music producer and DJ, so if that's something that interests you, visit her site right now! She released her debut album this year and it rocks severely, I'm afraid. It's important you go listen. However, she's also got many remixes and lengthy mixes. I also really like her blog, it's part thoughts about livin' on the internet that we all know and struggle with and tales of DJing and music. So cool. You thought it was just music? Wrong! Lydels also has quite a bit on her fave video games and manga, as a fellow Witch Hat and Love Com die-hard, I understand.

My favourite page on the website is...

There's so many pages I wanna highlight: for example, the incredibly cool shrines for Phoenix and Pizzicato Five with very rich detail, both in content and visuals.  I love the shiny look of the musician webring. However, I frequent the album of the month (and specifically what Lydels has to say about it) most often in order to find some new good stuff to listen to. There's a year's worth of albums lined up right now, so 12 in total, most of which I was not familiar with at all. As an algorithm hater, this hand-picked style of curation has been helping me.
