2025 Digital Advent #16: bielzin

Hey everyone, still late but still working. We're visiting a site that is very honest with it's reference to the past without being stale: Joao of bielzin.neocities.org! In fact Joao says that what he loves is the view of the future from the past, and I don't know how much of this is nostalgia talking, but I agree wholeheartedly! Step into the mid 2000s, my first experience on the internet.

How did I find this website?

I think me and Joao followed each other quite recently and he left me a nice message on my profile. I liked that his site was very honest to the clean but not boring designs of the 2000s. It's what the kids are calling Frutiger Aero these days and it's awesome. The layout of Joao's site is deceptively simple, it really looks great because of the detail, the ratio of thumbnail and font sizes that all work in excellent harmony.

Check this website out if you like...

If you like all things Frutiger Aero, all things 2000s, Joao's site is for you! There is some excellent music tracks and albums picked out by Joao, largely in the dance and electronica genre. His blog is varied and I personally really enjoyed the posts about popular culture-related things such as the Zeebo or Corona and her ghost-singer, Olga! Also, you can just play Papa's Pizzeria on a cool dedicated page, the perfect use of the web. Joao has a bunch of neat projects in the works, a YouTube-style page with selected videos and The Vault, a virtual desktop that looks amazing and I hope will have many more features in the future.

My favourite page on the website is...

I love all the banners on Joao's site and my fave page has to be the games page. First of all, it's an excellent selection and something about the composition of the sidebar, the thumbnails, and the text is so pleasing. I really love Joao's design philosophy and I can't wait to see what other cool stuff he'll be making.
